With the rapid growth of the ceramic industry, the development of China glazes and pigments indus-try has experienced a drastic change. In the course of research and development, a variety of new ceramic glazes and pigments which apply to rustic tile, polished tile, full polished glaze and ceramic mosaic tile have been introduced to the public. In addition, we have also seen some new ceramic decorative materials such as metal-like pig-ment, interference pigment, met-al-like glaze, lustre glaze, reaction glaze, frits of different types, dry granular, liquid pigment and soluble salt glaze, etc.

At present, the processing enterpris-es for ceramic raw materials have extended over to different ceramic industrial areas across the country while the glaze and pigments manu-facturers have become more spe-cialized than before. Guangdong province, East China region (Shang-hai, Zhejiang, Jiangsu, eastern part of Jiangxi and Fujian) and Shan-dong province have become the ma-jor production bases, of which Guangdong province plays the lead-ing role. In Guangdong, Foshan and Chaozhou are its two largest pro-duction bases.

Traditional pigments are gener-ally signal dimensional pigments. Divided into two parts, i.e. body pigments and glaze pigment. Pig-ments like the transparent pigment and flash pigment from T&H Glaze, China red from Wanxing Inorganic Pigment, coral, atomic red and zir-conium iron pink from Zhongguan Ceramic Glaze, ruby red and golden red of the second generation from Hehe Pigment, and inorganic pig-ment made from other well-known enterprises all have good thermal and chemical stability and strong tinting strength, and can be made in-to the tertiary colour by mixing with other ceramic pigments. Vanadi-um-zirconium blue in particular, which can be used as the body pig-ment as well as glaze pigment, is a widely-used pigment.
传统色料是一维色料，分坯用色料和釉用色料两大类。大鸿制釉的透明料、闪光料，万兴颜料的中国红，中冠的珊瑚红、原子红、锆铁红、禾合推出第二代价廉物美的宝石红、金红。以及各知名企业推出的无机锆色料有较高的热稳定性、化学稳定性、着色力强，能和大多数陶瓷颜料混和制得复合色而著称，其中钒锆蓝色料可作为坯用色料和釉用色料用途广泛。
Glaze pigment includes inclu-sion red, agate red, golden brown, pink, praseodymium yellow, orange yellow, malachite green, apple green, jewellery blue, silvery grey, regular black and special black, etc. All these pigments contain zirconi-um without zinc, and the pigments for roll marks which are advanced in technology and high in added val-ue are all up to the standard of tech-nical maturity. However, most of the high level pigments such as the metal-like pigment and fluorescent pigment of the second generation and the dry granular three-dimen-sional pigment of the third genera-tion are imported from other coun-tries. According to the experts, it is an inevitable trend to draw the glaze pigment towards pigment for roll marks and dry pigment. In addition, the development of soluble salt glaze has achieved a new break-through. Soluble salt glaze which is mainly used for ceramic body is a high-tech ceramic glaze. Super white soluble salt glaze, special black soluble salt glaze, red soluble salt glaze and metal soluble salt glaze which are made by the compa-nies like Foshan Gelin and Foshan Mindst Technology and Develop-ment and have strong penetrability and are not easy to diffuse, are up to the advanced world standard, cheap-er than those imported and become an impetus for upgrading and updat-ing the polished tiles.
